Stephen Kelese is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Data Protection Officer (DPO) at Access Bank Cameroon, a position he has held since 2023. In this dual role, he is responsible for defining and executing the bank’s cybersecurity strategy, protecting customer and enterprise data, and ensuring compliance with both national and international data protection regulations.
With over a decade of experience in the financial services industry, Stephen has developed extensive expertise in information security governance, technology risk management, and regulatory compliance. Before joining Access Bank, he held several key positions at UBA Bank. He started in the Information Technology Department as an IT Officer, then moved to the Internal Controls and Compliance Unit as an IT and Digital Banking Control Officer. He later worked in the Risk Department as an IT Risk Officer, where he gained a deeper understanding of operational and technology risks.
Stephen also advanced his career at Citibank, serving as Assistant Manager of Technology Infrastructure. In this role, he led critical infrastructure initiatives to support efficient banking operations.
He holds a master’s degree in information technology and Telecommunications from Polytechnic of Douala. Additionally, he is a certified professional in various areas of cybersecurity and risk management, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), ISO 27001 Lead Implementer, and ISO 22301 Lead Implementer.
